Here at Salt Caravan, we make small-group journeys led by food, shaped by our in-country experts, and grounded in decades of combined experience in the travel industry.
We don’t want to show you the usual checklist sites. Anyone can do that. And we won’t be queueing up for that place that’s just gone viral, either.
We want you to eat with us at places you could never have found by yourself, with people you could never have met by yourself, and hear stories you could never have heard except in that unique moment.
We’re for curious, experienced travellers who value restraint as much as access. And we’re not for everyone, but that’s fine. We were never meant to be.
So if you’re more interested in how and why something is made than in seeing everything, you’re in the right place. If you’d rather eat well in fewer places than collect highlights, even better.
Our approach
Food is how we discover a place - so much culture can be learned through it: tradition, celebration, routine, hierarchy, unspoken rules.
That means slowing down, paying attention, and prioritising depth over volume. We’d rather spend a morning learning why something is made a certain way than rush between landmarks.
What makes it different
We work with friends who are embedded in their local food cultures and return to places we trust. The emphasis is on context and stories, not novelty for novelty’s sake. You won’t be rushed from one experience to the next, and you won’t be fed a version of a place designed for tourists.
You’ll experience things you can’t book online: and these doors only open because the right relationships exist.

The team at Salt Caravan brings long experience designing and running small-group travel.
And yes, we’re passionate about food.
But we’re just as serious about the unglamorous parts that make a trip work: pacing, logistics, contingency planning, and confirming things properly. It’s rarely visible, but it’s what creates ease, trust, and guests who come back.
