  • Health Requirements:

Your wellbeing matters... to you, to us, and to the group you’ll be traveling with. We can’t provide specific medical or vaccination advice, so please discuss any pre-existing conditions, medications, and any required 'entry' vaccinations with your doctor. This helps ensure you’re ready — physically and mentally — to safely travel internationally, to a specific country, and participate safely and comfortably in this tour and all scheduled activities.

    What you agree to:

    • You’re in good general health and will let us know about any medical (physical or mental) conditions or medications that could affect your participation.

    • You’ll consult a medical professional about any pre-existing conditions and confirm any vaccinations or medications required for the countries you’re visiting.

    • You understand the trip requirements and are physically and mentally fit to take part in all scheduled activities.

    • You don’t have a condition that could create a hazard for yourself or others, or affect the comfort and enjoyment of the group.

  • Most of our trips have a tip kitty because many cultures have diverse rules when it comes to tips. We’ve found it to be the easiest way to combat over-tipping, under-tipping or having the tip fall into the wrong hands. Our goal is for guests to relax and know that the complexities of tipping are taken care of, on their behalf.

A recommended amount will be shared with you prior to your trip commencing.

  • Double Occupancy Bookings:

Double occupancy rooms require the booking be for two participants - this could be a partner or traveling companion.

We aren't able to book solo travelers in Double Occupancy rooms and match them up with another solo traveler - please consider booking with someone you know, or a Single Occupancy booking.

    Single Occupancy Bookings:

Single occupancy rooms are designed for one participant and are booked by travellers who prefer their own private room.

These bookings are for solo travellers only and can’t be shared with another guest. If you’re travelling with a partner or friend, please book a Double Occupancy room instead.

If you want to purchase a single occupancy spot, just select "Double Room - Single Occupant" from the drop-down.

  • Yes, absolutely. You’re very welcome to arrive before the tour begins or stay on after it finishes.

Salt Caravan arranges accommodation and services for the official tour dates only. Any accommodation or plans outside the scheduled itinerary are the guest’s responsibility to organise independently.

If you’d like to arrive early or stay on after in a room at the Start or End Hotel, simply check the accommodation listed in your itinerary and book it directly through your preferred website.

    Popular hotel booking sites include:

💡 Once booked, update your accommodation status in ‘Manage My Booking’ and enter your booking reference number. We’ll use this to coordinate your room with the Start Hotel so you won’t need to switch rooms.

  • Try to arrive before midday on the start day, although earlier would be recommended. If possible, come one day early to settle in.

  • Opportunities to do laundry during your trip may be unpredictable. However, your guide will be able to assist with this during your trip.

  • Your guide will be with you throughout your trip, and is your first point of call for any help you might need.

In the unlikely event of a health or security related incident during a trip, we’ve engaged a local partner to assist. From our experience, there is not one framework that fits all, and every incident is unique and requires a different approach. With all trips, your guides are your day-to-day support. While behind the scenes, there is an active line of communication – between your guide, the on-ground support team, and Australian Ops.

  • People who join our trips tend to be well travelled, curious, and comfortable with a bit of looseness in the plan if the food or the moment leads us somewhere better. They care more about what’s real than what’s polished, and they’re happy trading Michelin stars for access, stories, and meals with a point of view. That is, not all white tablecloths and perfectly composed plates; it might mean a plastic stool, a smoky kitchen, a cook who knows their regulars by name, and a dish that carries a bit of history.

We also expect guests to follow our Participation Guidelines; they keep everyone happy, safe, and having fun throughout their adventure.

  • If you have a group and want to travel privately on any of our itineraries, that’s not a problem. Contact us for a quote if you’re interested, and we’ll customise to your needs.

Note: all pricing on our website is based on groups of 8 people. Costs will vary for different amounts of people, but please keep in mind that a guide’s salary does not vary with trip numbers. This means that the per person price for a very small group might be significantly higher.

  • International airfares are not included. Being tour operators (not travel agents), we are not licensed to sell flights. We recommend contacting your trusted local travel agent to book flights if you’re in need of assistance.

  • In Our Opinion: Yes, Absolutely

Travel insurance helps protect you from serious financial and medical risk while traveling overseas.

Medical treatment, hospital stays, and emergency evacuations can be extremely expensive in many countries. Even minor illnesses or injuries can result in bills of thousands of dollars without adequate coverage.

Comprehensive travel insurance can also protect you if your trip needs to be canceled or cut short due to illness, injury, family emergencies, or unexpected events, and may cover the loss, theft, or delay of luggage and personal belongings.

Imagine you develop severe food poisoning halfway through your trip and need hospital treatment and several nights of care. Between medical bills, medication, and extra accommodation, your costs can quickly climb into the thousands. With comprehensive travel insurance, these expenses are covered. Without it, you are personally responsible for the full amount.

Many of our trips involve physical activity and travel in remote or developing regions. It is essential that your policy covers adventure-style activities, emergency evacuation, and repatriation.

💡 Upload your policy anytime via the 'Manage my Booking' link provided in payment invoices and task reminder emails.
